In 1600,Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated the western army led by Ishida Mitsunari at the Battle of Sekigahara and founded the Edo shogunate in 1603.Ieyasu built Nagoya Castle on the northern edge of the Nagoya plateau in preparation for the coming decisive battle against the Toyotomi family.Nagoya Castle Town was built on the south side of Nagoya Castle.In the center of the castle town, there was a residential area for merchants and craftsmen called "Go-ban-wari," surrounded by samurai residences.Furthermore, temples were placed on the west, east, and south sides of its perimeter to prepare for attacks from outside enemies.This website introduces the Nagoya castle town in the Edo period from south to north, using guide to famous Spots, old maps, and current drone images.
