Horikawa River constructed by Fukushima Masanori follow the command of Ieyasu is the canal which excavated the westernmost end of the Atsuta plateau. The big pond as stockyard and a place where ships are moored or anchored was dug in Shirotori on the right bank of this river). People could get the whole view of the Atsuta offshore from Hononji temple on the hill. It has been told that the Shirotori ancient tomb was built at the beginning of the 6th century. It has been believed that Yamato-Takeru-no-Mikoto disguised itself as the swan, and returned to this ground after his death. Danpuyama ancient tomb is the greatest an ancient Japanese tomb of a circular shape with a rectangular frontage in the Tokai district. It has been reported that this ancient Japanese tomb is the grave of Miyasuhime-no-mikoto (Yamatotakeru-no-mikoto's princess). Entry of ordinary people was allowed only once per year in the Edo period(1603-1868). Sawa Kannon is one of the four Kannon temples which were around Atsuta Shrine. Suzuka Mountains could be seen from the precincts of this temple, and the prospect here was counted by one of the big three views in Nagoya.

About 1200 years before,Saicho (the founder of Tendai sect) recited the Lotus Sutra in the precincts of Atsuta Shrine for 100 days by the Emperor Kammu's order.The one believer contributed Hokke-do temple(the former Hononji) then. Nicchou who is a disciples of Nichiren's disciples of High Priest Nichiren(founder of Nichiren Sect) would perform surrounding mission of this ground. Since it was referred to as base of mission,Hononji Temple was founded in the present location by repair of transferred Hokke-do.

It has been told that the Shirotori ancient tomb was built at the beginning of the 6th century. This ancient tomb is an ancient Japanese tomb of a circular shape with a rectangular frontage, and has about 74m in length, and the extreme breadth of 25m .

Sawa Kannon is a temple of Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism. A merchant Tsuda Harutomi transferred Honzon(the principal image) of deserted Kannon-do(a temple dedicated to Kannon) and built this temple. The safety of the ships which come and go Horikawa river was wished, and the Kanjo of Sumiyoshi-shin of Osaka was carried out in 1734.Although this had been ensconced in the Sin-oto-cho route at first,Sumiyoshi Shrine was transferred to the current location in 1762.
