The South temple town(The outskirts of Shirakawa Park)

The many minor temples had been accumulated around Shirakawa Park from the Edo period(1603-1868) to the early stages of Showa Era(1926-1989). The temples were relocated in a suburb during World War II. Shirakawa Park had been used as the family's of the U.S. Forces' dwelling, and was called U.S. Village from citizens. After withdrawal of the Occupation Forces, this park was fixed as a park and Nagoya City Science Museum and an art museum were built. Many visitors have been visiting to the planetarium of Nagoya City Science Museum which refurbished in 2011.

In the Edo period(1603-1868) ,Shirakawa Park were located in South Temple town's northernmost end, and the minor temples such as Juodo,Ryuseiji,Komyoji,Gankoin,Zyukoyoji,Seiganji,Yourinji,Dairinji,Hoshunin,Seikoji, Hououji,Senshoin,Hozyuin,Zinseji,Zyuhoji,Houzoji,Tokurinji, were accumulating . These temples were relocated to city every place in the World War II last stage,and Shirakawa Park became lodgings of theOccupation Army for the period of the postwar , and was returned to Nagoya City in 1959. Then, Nagoya City Science Museum and Nagoya City Art Museum were built, and this park has become a place for relaxation and refreshment of citizens now.

Seishuji Temple,Hakurinji Temple
Seishuji Temple,Hakurinji Temple

Seishuji Temple was founded in 1553 in order to mourn for Hirate Masahide's soul. Hirate Masahide had served Oda Nobuhide as trainer of Oda Nobunaga. Young Nobunaga had repeated eccentricities without worrying about other people's opinions. Hirate Masahide had persuade Nobunaga not to do such acts many times. However, he had not renew one's manners. Nobunaga threw makko(incense powder) at Buddha or a mortuary tablet on his father's funereal day. Hirate Masahide took the responsibility for this eccentric behavior, and committed hara-kiri. Hakurinji is the temple which the first lord of the Owari domain Yoshinao Tokugawa built for Tsukegaro Naruse Masanari. This temple is a family temple of the Naruse family.

*Tsukegaro* :karo( a chief retainer) assigned directly by the shogun when the sons of the Tokugawa became daimyo

Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine has been transmitted as having been founded in Nagoya Castle at the beginning of the eighth century. This shrine transferred to the its present location for the Nagoya Castle construction,and it had been worshipped as Ujigami (Local tutelar deity) of the Owari Tokugawa family and as the Nagoya Sochinju (the center place to pray for local gods) of Nagoya.

Wakamiya Festival is an annual festival of Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine. This festival had been called Nagoya 3 major festival along with the Toshogu shrine festival and the Tenno shrine festival in the Edo period(1603-1868). It had been carried out at the same period as the Tenno festival, and had been collectively called as "Gion Festival". Seven floats and the mikoshi(a portable shrine) went and came back to this shrine and Tenno. Since the floats other than Fukurokuzyu float were burned down by World War II , it has been performed by only the Fukurokuzyu float now.
