In the Asuka period (592-710) last stage,Seki barrier station was prepared in the Seki area(Kameyama city) as an arm site of the main capital. Suzukatoge Pass had become a part of important route which connects the eastern part of Japan to the capital. Suzukatoge Pass was avoided for the steepness of a slope, or the badness of a climate condition, and the highway (Yamato-kaido) which passes along Iga from Yamato was used then. When the capital was moved from Nara to Kyoto in 794, Asuhamichi which crosses Suzuka-toge from Omi was fixed, and it was determined as national highway Tokaido. The Princess Saio's procession as a substitute of the Emperor who goes to Ise was also obliged to pass along this way.

When the Edo period came, Sakashita post-town and Seki post-town were put on the place which exceeded Suzuka-toge as an important base in Tokaido(From Kyoto to Tokyo). Toukaido Highway has branched with Yamato Highway on the west side in Seki post‐town. In Seki post-town, 200 or more town houses the late Edo period and in early stages of Meiji Era are existing even now, and many tourists are visiting.

Seki post-town Gion Summer festival is a traditional event which continues from the early stages of the Edo period(1603-1868). Four gorgeous floats march through Seki post-town. The rotation of the float called "Yataimawashi" can excite spectators every year.
