Mino City is located in the center of Chuno region (Gifu Prefecture). The Ogura-yama castle was built by Kanamori Nagachika on the Ogura-yama summit in 1600. He built the castle town at the foot in Ogura-yama, and established the harbor to the Nagara-gawa riverbank. This harbor contributed to development of the town as a base of goods collection and distribution, such as Mino Washi(Japanese paper). The name of Mino City originates in Mino Washi.
The dwelling of the wealthy merchant of those days is left behind still now. The corner is specified as important preservation district of historic buildings of Japan. Moreover, the technology of Mino Washi was registered into UNESCO Intangible cultural heritage in 2014. The Mino Washi light art exhibition started in 1994. Mino Washi with the tradition in 1,300 is used, and the work of a light is built. A work is invited from the whole country and exhibited for two days in mid-October every year.
